It’s My Birthday…

Whelp, it’s that time of year. Another year older, another year of pushing to be a better photographer, a better boyfriend, a better father, and a better person overall. It got me to thinking of the goals I am going to set for myself for my ripe age of 35.

There are so many things that everyone can do to improve their life and their work. I have a few goals that I want to achieve for my boudoir business, and I thought maybe I would share them with you as well. Now of course I could say “Make a million dollars, book 500 shoots for the year, and go on 7 vacations”. Do I want that? DUH… But I think we all have to set realistic goals and keep pushing forward to grow.

Goal 1- Camera and lighting improvements

- While a camera is less than half of what can make a photo great, I want to be able to give my clients, that are trusting me with something so special, the best possible images I can give to them. That means upgrading my gear, lots of tutorials and classes on better lighting scenarios, and working hard to help give each customer that WOW moment when they see their photos for the first time.

Goal 2- Try a new pose in every session

- So this one is going to take a lot of thought and creativity. I have my posing guide I created that I constantly reference, with dozens of poses to help get the most out of your session. But I don’t want my work to be repetitive. My goal is for each shoot is to try and use a brand new pose, or at the very least, a variation of a pose that will completely change how the photo will look, to give each client something special to them.

Goal 3- Try new locations

- I am a creature of habit. I use my house as my studio, and transform my living room into a bedroom for shoots, and it looks great. But I want to expand and break out of my own comfort zone. I want to be able to do some outdoor shoots during the summer, I want to be able to get a hotel room or a nice Air BNB for weekends that are booked solid. I want to give variety in my work. Also would love to do a shower session! There is something just so intimate and sexy about shower photos, pushing against the glass. My home shower would not be able to do it, but in a hotel, that is something on my bucket list.

And Finally….

Goal 4- Book more clients

- Obviously this would be a goal of mine. Running a business is only sustainable if you can continue to make your business grow. Now even though I have been doing for photography for 10+ years, I only opened my boudoir business the very end of 2021. That means this year I have already had triple the clients I had last year, which on paper sounds great. I want to book a minimum of 50 clients this year. That is a very realistic number, which honestly I think based on the growth so far I will probably pass. But that depends on my clients. If you want to do a shoot, do not be scared to reach out. And if you have done a shoot, referring a friend to do the same and feel as amazing about themselves afterwards as you did, is a great gift from you!

Here is to turning 35, being with the love of my life, having the most amazing daughter, and having my dream job. I don’t see how this year can get any better.
